Here in Australia, there is a new ecclesia who has as one of its planks a belief that women can speak from the platform. Now that idea is rattling a few cages and the response from some ecclesias has been to disfellowship the entire ecclesia. What do my fellow forum members think about the idea of "ecclesial disfellowship"?

presumably there would need to be some form of list of core beliefs that must be accepted? and that would probably have to be the BASF?

Even though I diagree with this new ecclesias position, I cannot see how we can disfellowship them. The role of women in the ecclesia is not addressed in the BASF as far as I remember. But even so the whole thing of"ecclesial disfellowship" seems unscriptural.

It's an unfortunate situation. To some extent ecclesial autonomy gives ecclesias the right to choose whom they fellowship, just as it allows them to add new DTBRs.
But refusing fellowship to an entire ecclesia is a dangerous and divisive practice. |
