Exodus 9v 25:
And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field and brake every tree of the field Exodus 9v31-32: And the flax and barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was boiled. But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up Is there any reason for v31-32 other than that wheat was still going to be available for food? |

When we read that I assumed it was because the wheat has still not grown and so hail couldn't touch it. NIV says
31 (The flax and barley were destroyed, since the barley had headed and the flax was in bloom. 32 The wheat and spelt, however, were not destroyed, because they ripen later.) |
