Default Poem

My Lord And I.

I have a friend so precious,
So very dear to me;
He loves me with such tender love,
He loves so faithfully.
I could not live apart from Him,
I love to feel Him nigh;
And so we dwell together.
My Lord and I.

Sometimes I’m faint and weary,
He knows that I am weak.
And so He bids me lean on Him,
His help I gladly seek.
He leads me in the paths of light,
Beneath a summer sky,
And so we walk together,
My Lord and I.

He knows how much I love Him,
He knows I love Him well,
But with what love He loves me,
My tongue can never tell.
It is an everlasting love,
An ever rich supply,
And so we love each other,
My Lord and I.

I tell Him of my sorrows,
I tell Him of all my joys,
I tell Him all that pleases me,
I tell Him what annoys.
He tells me what I ought to do,
He tells me what to try,
And so we walk together,
My Lord and I.

Once more dear Lord.

Once more dear Lord, again I come
To ease the turmoil of my troubled mind.
To join with thee, and be at one,
Knowing thy love, is all I seek to find.

For when the shadows, of my doubts and fears,
Like thieves, come stealing, softly in the night.
I seek thy love, and find thee ever near
To take my hand, to guide me to the light.

Amidst the trials of this earthly life,
I feel thy presence, know that I’m secure,
The can I bear, the sorrows and the strife,
My trust in thee, my faith, is ever sure.

For you’re my strength, my shield, and come what may,
I know thy will, I’ll never question why.
And in each prayer, you’ll hear the words I say :
“ Dear Lord, once more, again I’ll try.”

WATCH HOW YOU READ.

“It is one thing to read the Bible through,
Another thing to read to learn and do.
Some read it with design to learn to read,
But to the subject pay but little heed.
Some read it as their duty once a week,
But no instruction from the Bible seek;
While others read it with but little care,
With no regard to how they read, nor where.
Some read it as a history, to know
How people lived three thousand years ago.
Some read to bring themselves repute
By showing others how they can dispute;
Whilst others read because their neighbours do,
To see how long ‘ twill take to read it through.
Some read it for the wonders that are there –
How David killed a Lion and a Bear;
While othes read it with uncommon care,
Hoping to find some contradiction there!
Some read it as it does not speak to them,
But to the people of Jerusalem.
One reads it as a book of Mysteries,
And won’t believe the things he sees.
One reads it with father’s ‘specs’ upon his head,
And sees things just as his father has said.
Some read to prove a pre-adopted creed,
Hence understand but little that they read;
For every passage in the Book they bend,
To make it suit that all-important end!
Some people read, as I have often thought,
To teach the Book instead of being taught,
And some there are who read it out of spite –
I fear there are few who read it right.
So many people in these later days,
Have read the Bible so many ways
That few can tell which way is best,
For every party contradicts the rest!
But read it prayerfully, and you will see,
Although men contradict, God’s words agree.
For what the early Bible Prophets wrote,
We find that Christ and His Apostles quote:
So trust no creed that trembles to recall
What was penned by one and verified by all.
Read it till all the truth you see,
Then all will be sweet harmony.”

Your Wealth.

We humans are a funny lot,
We are never satisfied.
Too late, we see the gifts we’ve got,
Too late we realise.
Through all our life, we scrimp and save,
We covet others gold.
As though within the silent grave,
Our treasures we can hold.

Yet blessed the man, who sees the sun,
Then gives to God his praise.
Who with all nature is at one,
He’s rich in all his days.
The one who feels another’s need,
And thinks not of themselves,
But gives and does with love each deed,
Has all this world’s wealth.

The humble labourer at his tasks,
Who tends the fruitful earth.
Who life accepts and never asks,
What man can know his worth.
For from this life, you only reap,
The harvest you have grown.
The only treasures you may keep,
The seeds that you have sown..

With empty hands, we enter life,
Still empty when we leave.
Yet filled with spiritual Truth and Light,
That God alone perceives.
For brighter than a diamonds flame.
More rare than all earth’s gold.
One gift you offer in His Name,
The Spiritual wealth you hold.
Unknown..

(Mat 6:20) But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven,
where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt,
and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
(Mat 6:21) For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

We need Someone

We need someone to hold us, in the darkness of the night
To whisper soft, “ I love you, everything will be alright”
We need someone to lean on, along life’s weary way.
To comfort and assure us, by our side they’ll ever stay.

We need someone to talk to, just to tell our troubles to,
To help and to console us, be our guide in all we do.
Yes everyone needs someone , we’re but human, you and me,
For you cannot be an island, in life’s dark and stormy sea.

So if you feel forsaken, and there’s darkness everywhere.
Remember, God is with you, in each thought and every prayer
Let Him be that special someone,
Speak to Him, and let Him share.
All your worries, all your heartaches.
For you will find; He is always there.

Hebrews 13:6. so we may boldly say; the Lord is my helper and
I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

A Special Prayer.

Father, let my eyes, be those that see,
All blessings you create.
So that my feet, may ever walk,
The path you’d have me take.

Control my hands, and let them do,
Your work, whatever you so will,
And may my ears, forever hear
Your voice of Peace and Still.

So if my tongue, begins to speak,
Harsh works of hate or scorn.
My lips you’ll still, with love until,
But sounds of love, they form.

Direct my way, to take me,
So swift to do thy deed.
Arms open wide, to take inside
All those who are in need.

So Father, Grant this special prayer.
Just let my life but be.
One you will choose, one you may use,
Through this love, you give to me.

The Neglected Book.

In their home there is a book
With pages seldom turned,
Whose messages of truth & hope
Are still by them unlearned;
The book that tells of him who came,
A better way to show,
The beauty of a sinless life,
Lived here so long ago.

‘ Tis said they do not really know
This man from Galilee
Who healed the lame, blind & deaf,
Beside the sapphire sea;
And still they read, laugh & cry
Over stories of the hour,
And let the Book, dust – covered lie
Unopened in its Power.

Look Within.

God grand each day, that I may find,
someone who needs a helping hand.
Someone who’s lost that peace of mind,
That only spirit understands.

For in the giving of ourselves,
to others freely, and with love.
We touch love that in us dwells,
we see the Light that shines above.

What richer gift can we bestow,
what greater joy above all other.
To say to stranger; “ Friend I know,
come take my hand, and call me brother”.

For if you wish your life to live,
to know that spiritual peace of mind.
Yourself to others, you must give.
For only in giving, Yourself, you’ll find.

Tomorrow’s Tears.

When your world seems dark with sorrow,
And no matter how you try.
The brightness of tomorrow,
Is lost in tears you cry.
When your happiness is broken,
Amidst thoughts, that are not spoken,
Within words, you cannot say.
When you need someone to guide you,
In the darkness of despair.
You will find a light inside you,
If you say, a little prayer.

For God knows your times of sadness,
He shares all your doubts and fears,
And His love will bring a gladness,
As you cry, “ Tomorrows tears.”
For He knows your heart is breaking,
For all that might have been.
All the plans that you were making,
That to others were not seen.
He will dry your eyes with kindness,
Though your heart is filled with pain.
Wipe away the tears of blindness,
Show you how, to try again.

With His strength, you will discover
“ NOW ;” is just a passing phase.
Build together, with each other,
ALL; “Tomorrows brighter days.”

My Bible.

We’ve travelled together, my Bible and I,
Through all kinds of weather with smiles and with sigh.
In sorrow or sunshine, in tempest or calm,
Thy friendship unchanging, my Lamp and my Psalm.

So now, who shall part us, my Bible and I ?
Shall ism or Schism, or new lights who try ?
Shall shadow for substance or stone for good bread
Supplant its sound wisdom, give fully instead ?

Ah no ! my dear Bible, Revealer of light,
Thou Sword of the Spirit, put error to flight.
And still through life’s journey until the last sigh,
We’ll travel together, my Bible and I.

Default A Sermon. Edward Guest.

I'd rather see a sermon
than hear one any day;
I'd rather one should walk with me
than merely tell the way.

The eye's a better pupil
and more willing than the ear,
Fine council is confusing
but example's always clear;

And the best of all the preachers
are men who live their creeds,
For to see good put into action
is what everyone needs.

I soon can learn to do it
if you'll let me see it done;
I can watch your hands in action
but your tongue to fast may run.

And the lecture you deliver
maybe very wise and true,
But I'd rather get my lessons
by observing what you do.

For I might misunderstand you
and the high advice you give,
But there's no misunderstanding
how you act and how you live.

When I see a deed of kindness
I am eager to be kind.
When a weaker bother stumbles
and a strong man stays behind

Just to see if he can help him,
then the wish grows strong in me
To become as big and thoughtful
as I know that friend to be.

And all the travelers can witness
that the best guides today
Is not the one that tells them,
but the one who shows the way.

One good man teaches many,
men believe what they behold;
One deed of kindness noticed
is worth forty that are told.

Who stands with men of honour
learns to hold his honour dear,
For right living speaks a language
which to everyone is clear.

Though a able speaker charms me
with his eloquence, I say,
I'd rather see a sermon
than hear one, any day.

Inquirer, It is good to see the Poems posted on this Forum, I know how well they have
been received on the other Forums where you posted them, it must have taken up a lot
of your posting time up, to get all those on here.
